Brief Bio:
An avid lover of words, I adore all sorts of stories and knowledge and hold degrees in Philosophy and English. Life before narration involved a lot of real estate, lawyers, and computers.
After growing up throughout the South (MS, AL, FL, NC) and then living in St. Louis, Missouri a spell, I’m now living in a log cabin in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.
Hobbies include dragons, astronomy, puzzles, cats, and nature. Things I know a lot about include topics from Stoicism to geography to organ transplant. My core values include compassion, constant learning, and integrity.
Hi, I’m Lisa S Ware.
I’m an audiobook narrator who helps Publishers/Producers/Casting Directors and Independent Authors go from chaos to order, giving them consistent quality and a trusted partner.
Originally from Columbus, Mississippi, I first realized I was interested in storytelling at age 7 or so when I would memorize scenes from shows or plays and act them out with my sister or my stuffed animals. I read every book in my school, so my teacher snuck in “big” books for me. And when I got the lead in a school play, I knew everyone’s part and all the stage marks and cues.
This inspired me to immerse myself in words and led to getting bachelor’s in philosophy and English from Maryville University, St. Louis and studying Latin and Greek. Throughout life, I’ve studied and analyzed texts and how spoken and written words affect everyone and everything. My revelation came when I discovered I could record audiobooks from a home studio and didn’t have to be in LA or NYC and on stage to act and tell stories.
Since 2017, I’ve produced over 85 audiobooks with publishers and independent authors like Ascent Audio, Highbridge, Spotify, Tantor, and University Press remotely in the online space. They get a partner that infuses each project with passion and dedication from start to finish as I bring their books to life.
My process is all about treating each manuscript like a unique puzzle that deserves a deep, thoughtful analysis and an impassioned performance.
We first discuss project parameters, figure out deadlines, and execute a contract. We’ll come up with a plan together! Projects often include an early audio checkpoint so you can approve accents, voices, or pacing before the full recording begins. You’re welcome to be as involved as you like! I love a good collaborative project.
Then we prep the manuscript. I start by getting to know you or the author(s) and target audience. For the first pass of the manuscript, I scan for plot points, character descriptors, and words/names that require research or clarification. Next, a close reading allows me to absorb the subtext, mark important scenes, and make acting choices on pacing, tone, and characterization.
And finally, we record the book! Once prep is finished and all questions are answered, I record in my professional, sound-treated booth. Any issues or questions that arise are addressed immediately to keep the process moving smoothly. After recording, I send the audio to your team or mine—I never proof my own work, ensuring a fresh set of expert ears.
You walk away with a manuscript that is transformed into engaging audio delivered with a smile, on time, and to your exact specifications.
Recording in my VocalBooth.com studio with my Neumann TLM-102 condenser mic and SSL2 interface in my Asheville, North Carolina office is inspiring. As I watch nature through the windows of the industrial Bohemian style room, I feel comfortable, creative, and grounded.
My lifelong learning and inquisitiveness influence my storytelling approach. As Epictetus said, “Progress is not achieved by luck or accident, but by working on yourself daily”.
That’s why I infuse philosophy and lessons from Stanislavski and Hagen to Johnny Heller and Jesse Coghill when prepping and performing. This helps me turn your manuscript into audio where your story or information comes to life.
I’m here to help you – the audiobook publisher or casting director and the independent author – produce entertaining and engaging audiobooks as your professional, flexible collaborator for everything from playful fiction to witty nonfiction.
I believe every Publisher, Producer, Casting Director, and Independent Author deserves a narrator that ensures every book lives beautifully in audio.
